April 26, 2008 : Check out this live video of us playing "inventions" last summer in Athens, GA. Thanks to Dan Slemons for all the hard work put into this. We may release the whole performance on DVD and sell it for super cheap on the road.
February 25 , 2008: Marathon practices. Agua Linda. New songs. Get ready.
February 14, 2008: Lots of updates. We're making good progress on some new songs and plan to go into the studio in the next few months to put them to tape. We've got two releases in the works this year that we're thrilled about - the first of which is a remix LP of several songs from our recent album "Inventions..." Among those remixing: Loving Hand (aka Tim Goldsworthy from DFA) and Justin VanDerVolgen (from !!!). Expect that out Summer-ish. We're also working on a split LP with prog-rock powerduo Zombi, hopefully out this fall.
Since we haven't played in the Sunshine State in forever, we're looking to do a "mini-tour" down there and back to Georgia when the weather gets warmer. Speaking of Florida, catch Jerry when he plays with !!! at the Langerado Festival in March. Jerry's other band The Juan Maclean have finished their record - look for it this year. Also, check out Matt's submission on TRL's top 10 list. Lastly, Coley got engaged to his girlfriend (now fiance) Misty. They get hitched in August! Shit man, we're old dudes!
November 24, 2007: Check out the re-vamped "BUY" page, where you can now get t-shirts and our out-of-print first EP on vinyl.
November 21, 2007: An interview we recently did on WRAS 88.5 (in Atlanta) will be aired on the Georgia Music Show on Thursday, Nov. 29 from 6-8pm. Mark your calendars and tune in!
November 9, 2007: A few updates. Coley and Matt did an interview with WRAS 88.5 in Atlanta for the "Georgia Music Show." Airing date will be posted soon. We've written a bunch of new material (sans rhythm section), but we're getting together in December to flesh out some ideas. We're tentatively set to have some new recordings and play some shows in the Spring of next year. Also, November 7 marked the 202nd performance of the year for our drummer Jerry, who spent this past year flip-flopping between !!! and Maserati tours with little to no days off in-between. We swear that dude is a robot built by cavemen.
September 24, 2007: Many, many thanks to all of you who came out to see us, helped organize our shows, let us sleep on your floor, bought us breakfast (looking your way Adam and Seth), shared the stage with us, bought us drinks, bought our shit and generally allowed us to keep feeling loved. Special thanks to Smoke Dog (aka Fred Weaver) for keeping us in line.
September 18, 2007: Somewhere outside Denver, Colorado...
September 4 , 2007: A couple of updates - we just added a show in El Paso this Sunday for you western Texans! We're leaving for tour this week, starting in Baton Rouge this Thursday. Early show on September 22nd in Atlanta at Drunken Unicorn.
August 22 , 2007: We are coming west! (note new venue for Seattle) As many of you know, our bass player Steve got married and moved to Corvalis, OR last year for school. Fortunately, he's going to be back in the saddle for this tour.... so we are psyched to have him. Also, although Josh (from Athens band A.Armada) has been filling in for Matt (guitar) on tour, Matt will be meeting up with us for the last few shows of tour... starting in Chicago. We also have a great "homecoming" show scheduled for Sept. 22nd at Atlanta's Drunken Unicorn - it's going to happen early in the evening wth Girl Talk and Dan Deacon spinning late-nite next door at the MJQ Concourse. Matt's other band Cassavetes will also be playing that show.
Plans are also in the works for a new release in 2008. Stay tuned for more awesomeness.
July 28, 2007: Check out the new Western US tour dates!
In other news - our former record label Kindercore is resurrected after years of legal tanglings. The label has been reborn as an independent media label – its new roster expanded to include bands, comic book artists, analysts, premier t-shirt designers, and humorists from Athens, GA and beyond. Check out their new website.
Oh, and our bro/booking agent Seth caught a fucking Cubs homer:
June 20, 2007: Thanks to all those who came to see us perform on tour. We had an absolute blast! We are now at home unwinding and gearing up for the next round. We are planning a Western US Tour for September. Although our new record "officially" hit shelves yesterday, we already have a bunch of new songs in the works. See you again in a few months.
June 9, 2007: Last night we had a pow-pow over beers at Mojo's in Columbia and worked out our schedules to do a West Coast tour in September. We're looking at Sept. 7-21 so if you're interested in helping out with a show, email Coley and Seth. We'll probably be starting in the south working clockwise around the country - we''ll keep you posted as dates come in. Thanks for all the interest west-coasters!!
June 4, 2007: Thanks to the !!! entourage for having us on their shows. We had a blast and are envious of their fancy tour bus. Special thanks to Tyler in Louisville, Mike T. in Chapel Hill and Kevin and Grechen in Boston for helping us out, playing host and generally being awesome. As you read this, we are likely speeding down some highway in the midwest....
May 24, 2007: Our US tour starts tomorrow in Louisville, KY. The first 5 shows are supporting !!!, so come watch Jerry play two sets in a row!
May 10, 2007: Good news for folks here in the U.S. that want our new album "Inventions for the New Season"! You have two options: 1) pre-order it from Temporary Residence's online store and it will be shipped to you at the beginning of June, or 2) come to one of our May/June shows and buy it straight from our grubby little hands. We have it in both CD and 2xLP formats. The LPs look killer -- they have much more extensive artwork than the CD and red-and-white splattered vinyl! Booya!
May 9, 2007: For those of you in the Bay Area, there is going to be a Video Awards Show on May 17th at the Artists Television Access art gallery in San Francisco. The show includes a whole bunch of amazing music videos from artists such as Bright Eyes, Mates of State, Cornelius and, of course, us. The video for "This is a Sight We Had From the High Mountain," which was conceptualized and directed by Adam Fuchs is among the submissions. If you haven't yet seen the video, check it out on our "MEDIA" page.
April 24, 2007: The cookbook "I Like Food, Food Tastes Good" comes out today, which features our very own Southern Cheese Grits recipe. I guess you can call it an "indie rock cookbook"-of-sorts, since it gathers culinary concoctions from a wide array of bands, including Belle & Sebastian, Battles, Camera Obscura, Grizzly Bear, My Morning Jacket, Violent Femmes and The Walkmen, to name a few. It is seriously the best idea for a cookbook we've ever heard of. You can order the book here for $15.
There was also a feature on the book on New York Public Radio this afternoon where the host tried to make the grits, but was perplexed by the thought of "putting pepper on breakfast food" and commented that the recipe was "okay." Regardless, they interviewed our friend Kara (the author) and played part of one of our songs. Check it out:
April 19, 2007: You can download and listen to a radio interview we did in Munich a few weeks ago here. Probably not the most articulate we've ever been, but whatever.
April 11, 2007: Thanks to everyone who came out to our shows - we had an amazing european tour! Special thanks to Timo, Andreas, Niels and Tina, without whom the tour would not have been possible. Heartfelt thanks go out to our bros in Ostinato. We miss you already.
Although we're still recovering from the jet lag at the moment, we will be hitting the road for several weeks in May and June for a bunch of stateside shows, some of which will be opening for !!!. Keep checking back for updates.
April 2 , 2007: We've sold out of the first pressing of our new CD here in Europe. We're told that the next batch should be here in about 10 days or so. Fortunately, we're expecting a shipment of 2xLPs in a day or two, which we'll have at our remaining shows. You can order the CD here for the time being and it will be shipped to you the 2nd week of April. Thanks for the great response!
March 27 , 2007: We're on tour in Europe right now . Last night in Freiburg, Germany was the first time we've ever played a sold-out show outside the United States. The fantastic crowd made us feel humbled and loved. We also played a show a couple of days ago in Lyon, France on a boat called "Sonic," which ruled. Below is a photo of us playing in Luxembourg a few nights ago. The crowd was awesome - they inspired us to try the infamous "super roll" (courtesy of Mr. Gerhardt Fuchs).
Btw... sorry the website went down for a few days. We had too many hits, but it's all fixed now. More soon. Keep checking back...
March 6 , 2007: Wassup. We've rescheduled our cancelled March Atlanta and Athens shows for June 14 and 15. These will also be our record release shows. Check out our double LP that just arrived from the factory. That's our bro Timo modeling the vinyl below. My man's got some rosy cheeks!
February 27, 2007: Thanks to Joel Hatstat for helping us finish recording a new song to be used for a remix EP that’s currently in the works for this fall. The yet-to-be-named tune was an outtake from the “Inventions…” sessions that we didn’t finish last summer with Andy Baker. We holed up in Joel’s studio this past weekend in Athens with wine coolers and a bunch of synths to finish the thing. Josh McKay from Macha even dropped by to lay some vibraphone tracks down and to give us a preview of his sure-to-be R&B hit “Pacify.”
Also….we’re currently scheduling our summer US tour for late May/early June, which will include the 2 postponed Athens and Atlanta shows. The first week of shows will be opening for !!!. Check back soon for more updates.
February 20, 2007: We are sorry to announce that, due to unforeseen circumstances, our March Atlanta and Athens shows are cancelled. We are going to do our best to reschedule these shows for June. We're sorry for the confusion and will post more updates soon.
January 31, 2007: Our cheese grits recipe will be featured in the upcoming "indie rock cookbook" I Like Food, Food Tastes Good, which was conceptualized, written and compiled by our old friend Kara Zuaro. The book, which comes out in April 2007, gathers recipes from a ton of bands, including Belle and Sebastian, My Morning Jacket, Violent Femmes and The Walkmen. Word has it that it has all kinds of crazy concoctions, from Lobster Mac and Cheese to some sort of weird Red Soda Pop Cake. You can pre-order the book here, check out a Myspace page about it here.
January 3, 2007: Thanks to all of you who came out to the totally un-secret secret show on New Years at the Secret Squirrel. We rarely get the chance to do things like that, but the stars were aligned for us as Matt came from Atlanta, Jerry from New York and Steve all the way from Oregon to make it happen. Even though we dredged through the rain and shit (don’t ask), we had a total blast. Special thanks to Mercer for accommodating us.
Thanks also to Cinemechanica and A.Armada for letting us invade their practice space over the holidays. We managed to write a new song between pitchers of margaritas and gallons of Agua Linda queso dip.
Also check out some hype about us from the most recent TRL newsletter. Be sure to look at our page in the “bands” section.
December 22, 2006: Thanks to all the folks who came out to the shows we played with Zombi (well, all except that drunk bastard in Brooklyn who crashed into Jerry’s drums). Many of you will also be happy to know that Jerry’s dental work was a success… and he won’t look at a chicken wing the same way ever again. We’ve just scheduled two local shows in Atlanta and Athens for March 16-17, 2007 (see shows column to the right), we’re touring Europe in March and April and our new CD/LP will be coming out in the US in May. We’re looking at doing a US tour next summer. In the meantime, we’re gonna take a break from egg nog and fruitcake in the coming weeks to get together and write some new material. Oh yeah, you should also check out a recent article about us in the Creative Loafing.
December 2006: Man, this global warming shit sucks! It's December and temperatures are in the 60s down here in Georgia. We're so bummed that we're going to load up our gas-guzzling van with 800 pounds of amplifiers and speaker cabinets to do some shows in the Northeast and Canada with our friends Zombi. We kick the jaunt off with a show at Northsix in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday, December 2nd (Damn... that's tomorrow!).
We're also thrilled to announce that our new album "Inventions for the New Season" will be released here in the US by Temporary Residence, Ltd. this Spring. Yeah, yeah, we know ... we want it to come out tomorrow, too! Patience, friends ... the good news is that we're planning a limited edition colored-vinyl, double LP version in addition to the more portable formats, so we need time to make it look cool! That said, we couldn't be happier with the way things have fallen into place with Jeremy & Co. over at TRL, especially since we've been fans of the label since we bought our first Tarentel record way back in 1999.
November 2006: We're really excited that a US release for our new album is being planned for both CD and LP formats. We're still figuring out the details and will announce them soon. We're also busy gearing up for a bunch of tours this Fall, Winter and Spring. More coming soon...
October 2006: Our new album, Inventions for the New Season is finished. We've posted a couple of new songs on our Myspace page, so check those out. Our bro Adam Fuchs from Adult Swim recently finished a video for the song This Is a Sight We Had One Day from the High Mountain, which can be viewed our Media page. The record is getting released in Australia via Sugar Rush Records and in Europe via Golden Antenna records. Release dates on those coming soon. A stateside release is in the works.
We're doing a short Northeast and Midwest tour with Tangerine Dream-on-speed enigma Zombi in late November/early December. They will crush you. We're planning a jaunt to Australia in February, playing SXSW in March and touring Europe in March and April.
Also check out a feature on us in the October issue of SE Performer Magazine.
More coming soon. Thanks for listening.
August 2006: Welcome to the new Maserati site! As many of you may or may not know, we've just finished up our first full length album in 4 years. Our previous label, Kindercore Records, filed for bankruptcy in November 2003 leaving all of its artists homeless. Fortunately for us, the good folks at Hello Sir Records were gracious enough to put out our next release, a 7" with 2 unreleased songs from "The Confines of Heat" sessions. Shortly thereafter, they re-released the out of print "The Language of Cities" as well as the "Confines" split who we did with some good friends of ours from Gainesville, FL called The Mercury Program.
Leading up to our hiatus, guitarist Matt cherry and drummer Phil Horan left the band. Matt moved to Ann Arbor, MI for a year to pursue graduate studies in urban design. Phil moved to San Francisco and joined a regge band called Still Flyin'. When the touring and support of the "Confines" record were surfacing, Phil was still in the band but we desperately needed someone to take over duties on guitar. Luckily for us our old friend Tristan Wraight of the now defunct Absinthe Blind (from Champaign, IL) was able to step in and take over for that US tour with The Mercury Program and Appleseed Cast, do a japan tour with our japanese labelmates MONO as well as a european 3 week tour.
In Spring of 2005, the three founding members Matt Cherry, Steve Scarborough and Coley Dennis reconnected and began writing new material (without drums, mind you). Enter Jerry, who was an old friend of the band when he went to school in Athens years ago and was without a doubt the only person in our minds who could be the replacement. After many pitchers of margaritas one summer night at Agua Linda, Jerry agreed to step in. Many may recognize him as the man behind the skins for Turing Machine and The Juan MacLean, as well as occasionally filling in with the likes of !!! and LCD Soundsystem.
We are currently beginning the process of shipping our new album to labels across the US for stateside release. Touring is also being planned for the end of the year as well as overseas this Spring. Stay tuned....
